We live in a nation that now ranks out of 34 countries, 14th in reading, 17th in science and 25th in math. That is far behind the highest scoring countries, including South Korea, Finland and Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai in China and Canada.
To make the situation worse we live in a state that has drastically cut public education funding. Not only has the budget been cut but the state also created a voucher system that uses tax payer money for tuition to private parochial schools. Every private school that has been accepted into the new voucher system has ties to a religious organization.
Amount Indiana Has Cut From Public Education
- $311 million cut to K-12 State Tuition Support.
- $1.3 million cut to Non English Speaking Program.
- $546,000 to Gifted/Talented programs.
- $3 million cut to State Student Assistance Commission
